China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) said that as of the end of February this year, the 4G subscriber base in China has topped 505 million, claiming to be the world's largest, reported China News on May 17. The Ministry also revealed major directions for the future development of ICT industry in China, including high-quality and low-cost broadband networks in urban and rural areas, smart manufacturing that realizes the "Internet Plus" initiative in the manufacturing industry, and making breakthroughs in key ICT technologies, particularly in 5G. MIIT aims to launch 5G commercialization in China by 2020 and will focus on the development of domestic high-end server and router industries.
